- The artist writes:
- As with all Daniel Menche's releases,
each release follows each other like a series. VENT is Daniel's sixth CD release
and like the others, it follows the same themes and ideas: extreme physics
of sound and sonic motions - the difference is that VENT is much grittier
and dirtier than his previous recordings - alot sicker in mood; violent emotions
are represented, separating itself as an rawer, nastier sonic documentation
of Daniel Menche's approach to sound. This is Not a recording displaying noisier
sounds but instead sicker sounds giving the listener a feeling of sound decaying,
but with the most constrained violence and raw elegance. The definition of
VENT is an "opening for an confined energy to escape" - this makes VENT an
album that transform your speakers into vents themselves - unleashing confined
sonic energy to escape into the listener's psyche.
-
- The first track starts the tone of the
album with a raw recording of Daniel's own heart recorded by pressing crude
microphones as hard as possible against his chest: other somatic sounds are
present throughout the album but in the most crudest presence. Other sound
sources are of smashing, scratching objects: in one track there is a sound
of a microphone accidentally catching fire, and other tracks have sounds of
recorders breaking down, anologue and digital equipment abused, dirty sounds
from old tone generators, broken record players, (records used were Daniel
Menche's previous vinyl releases greatly manipulated) and yes, there are several
sounds of actual vents pumping hot air. Every sound is mixed in an long elegantly
crude manner - shifting from loud corrosive sounds to a quiet raw ambience
giving an overall feeling of sickness in the nature of sound.
